Fast, soft, lacy green for the back of your tank.

Water Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis) is a fast-growing stem plant with deeply cut, lace-like leaves that reach about 20 inches. It fills an empty background quickly and soaks up nutrients as it grows.Fast stem plants are the first line of defense in a natural tank. Wisteria roots at every node, so it feeds from both the soil below and the water around it.

  1. Plant the stems in the sand cap. Push each stem about one inch into the sand, not into the soil. Or float it, and it will root from its nodes.
  2. Wait out the change. Farm-grown leaves are rounder and can yellow in the first 1–3 weeks as the new lacy underwater leaves grow in.
  3. Top and replant. When stems reach the surface, cut the tops and replant them. The bases branch out.
