A natural piece of wood for your tank.

Driftwood gives fish cover and gives your plants and shrimp something to live on. Each piece is natural, so every shape is different.

The problem

A tank with only sand and plants has nowhere for shy fish to hide, and few surfaces for biofilm to grow on.

The Father Fish way

In a natural tank, wood is part of the ecosystem. Biofilm grows on it for shrimp and fry to graze, and it is a place to attach epiphytes like java fern and anubias.

Your plan

  1. Soak it first. New wood often floats until it is waterlogged.
  2. Set it on the sand cap. Don't dig it down into the soil.
  3. Attach epiphytes with thread or glue. Never bury their rhizomes.

What you get

Small natural driftwood. Shape and size vary from piece to piece.

Why it matters

Without cover and surfaces, fish stay stressed and shrimp go hungry. A piece of wood makes the tank feel like home.

FAQ

  • Will it float? It may at first. Soak it until it sinks.
  • Will it tint the water? Some wood releases tannins that tint the water tea-colored. This is harmless.
